Nickey Kehoe Sale

Run don't walk on over to the Nickey Kehoe Sale! Huge savings to take advantage of!

Windsor Smith Home Collection

Have you checked out Windsor Smiths Furniture line? These pieces are so beautiful and the elegant chair (I have to admit) is one of my favorites! I had the pleasure of meeting Windsor at intimate dinner party last week and she told me the elegant chair is definitely a popular selling chair from her line. She added that the chair is extremely comfortable and totally functional since the arms sit low so you can push them under any dining table.

Some of my other favorites from her line are the Moroccan Ottomans and the Entry Round Settee.

Living In: Romeo and Juliet

from Design*Sponge

roundup 1
Don’t be ashamed to admit that you loved/love Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 version of Romeo and Juliet. We all did/do. There is a time to save face and renounce everything you thought was cool in 1996, but that time isn’t now. You can now finally succumb to your full blown crush on Leonardo DiCaprio, I won’t tell a soul.

roundup 2
Without a doubt, my favorite part of the movie is still the Capulet vs. Montague southern California split. The Montagues sport Hawaiian shirts and loaf around the beach all day, while the Capulet’s flair for the dramatic has them spilling blood in style. Rooms are flooded with candles and it’s hard to escape the religious iconography that pervades every scene, but why would you want to? When it comes to Romeo and Juliet, you need to just embrace the mid-nineties. Preferably while time warping to the sound of The Cardigans in your parents car.

LXTV - Open House

A week ago my home was featured on an episode of LXTV Open House. French American Wallpaper had the show come by and shoot at my very stylized house in Venice Beach (thank you Patrick!). The wallpaper that we chose was customized to match the color of my green vintage cabinet.

So if you are interested in finding out more about French American click the video link above or check out their website. They really do have the most beautiful papers around!

(Sub)Urban

If you're looking for a new store to hit...then drive downtown to find (Sub)Urban a new home decor and accessories store. I haven't been there as of yet, but wanted to let all you design minded folks about it! It seems as though they don't much on their website, but you can find them on facebook. Above are some shots of new store.

Next DNG Event

Will be held Dec 3rd at Atmosphere Gallery on Melrose. Invites will be sent out later this week that will include all the details. If you would like to become a member of our DNG group, email me at turquosie.la@gmail.com.

Hotel Maya

A new full service hotel just opened called Hotel Maya as part of the Joie De Vivre chain. This new hotel/resort with its Latin influence can be found on the waterfront in Long beach. Sangria tastings, outdoor movie theater - wow! I can literally see myself sipping Champagne here. A must to visit!

Lost City

I receive a lot of emails from companies trying to get me to post their work on my blog, exchange links and try to bribe me with posting their information for a free piece of art. Not my style.

So this morning I received an email from this amazing showroom in NY Lost City - that certainly caught my eye! While I am probably not the first person to blog about them and I am sure you have seen the site before. I must say this website is a gallery or a museum of its own. Lost City is an amazing site that explores wares from all of the world. I simply cant find the words to describe all that can be found on this website, so you must view it for yourself! Let the journey begin here!

Living In: Rosemary's Baby

from Design*Sponge

roundup 1
Continuing in the Halloween spirit, Rosemary’s Baby is my favorite kind of scary movie- suspenseful, chilling and eerie without any gore. I’m a big wuss when it comes to horror movies and continually hold my hands over my eyes, so an adorable Mia Farrow makes the whole thing much more manageable.
[image above, clockwise from top left: Arredoluce floor lamp $3600,coat of arms mirror $198, silk dress with lace collar $240, flokati rug $159, wool beret $13, mango radio $198, Thonet bistro chair $361, Kensington pram $1995, pearl earrings $22]

roundup 2
In addition to the well-known fact that Rosemary’s Baby is a bit of cinema heaven, it also contains the most pitch perfect on screen house renovation of any movie I’ve seen. When Rosemary and her husband buy an apartment in the fictionalized upper west side Dakota building, it’s dark, stuffy and terrifyingly creepy. As Rosemary’s pregnancy progresses, she spends her days painting and wallpapering until the house is unrecognizably bright and cheerful. A charming mix of uptown traditional and feminine 1960s mod, she’s inspired me to kick into high gear with my own projects around the house. Spawn of satan not required.

Latest E-Decorating Project- San Francisco

Above is my latest E-Decorating inspiration board from my client in San Francisco. This client wanted a mix of modern and glamorous pieces in her new living room and she wanted tones of light blues. I found an inexpensive tufted large sofa with lots of chair options and benches to fill up the large living room. I was able to find pieces that would work in her budget and still create that high-end look. If you would like to find out more about E-Decorating and how it works check out my website here. And please note out of respect for my paying clients I do not give our product information.

i'm oggling over this $10, resin necklace, featured on the moment blog. apparently it's from bijoux terner, a mostly east coast, mostly airport store. i want to go to there.

Ledger Tests

I am seriously running out of room on my walls for art, but I'd find a special spot for one of Rick Baker's ledger tests. Once I saw these online, I had to know more.

Aren't they beautiful? Rick is an artist from Los Angeles who has turned his love of collecting paper ephemera into innovative works of art. Of his technique he says, "I collect old photos, paper, postcards, etc. Sometimes, they make their way into my drawing, in the case of the ledger tests, it was an old accountant's ledger that I found a thrift store. I like the tone of the paper and I had the idea that it could function as a good 'frame' to 'hang my stuff' on...'my stuff', in this case, meaning the abstract forms (lines, dots, circles, etc.) that tend to 'bubble up' and out onto the paper when i clear my mind and get into 'drawing mode.'"

On his creative process: "I suppose it all kind of comes from my years of unconscious doodling--which, in retrospect, was a kind of ongoing self-education in drawing. It was only a few years ago that I decided to try to 'guide' those doodling impulses...to push myself and treat it seriously. I stopped throwing away things or stopping the drawing when it got too tangled or difficult. I have slowly trained myself to 'manage' these forms...repeat them and tweak them. the surprising result is that I developed what you could call a 'style', even though that was never a conscious intention of mine.

Evolution of an artist: "Now that i acknowledge it--name it as such--it has become a a sort of private creative 'toolbox' for me. I have my Dots (like on the Ledger Tests), my Bubbles, my Hair Lines, my Drips, my Nibs, Tendons and so on...I am now working on more pieces like the Ledger Tests (using more of the same paper, along with some new 'grid' and 'frames')."

For now, Rick isn't selling any of his work yet, but he's looking in to opening an Etsy shop--I really hope he does! For now, check out his wonderful Flickr sets for more.
