Living In: The Parent Trap

from Design*Sponge

It is officially summer and I am officially, um…. hot. I’ve been channeling all of the energy I can muster (not much) into dreaming about my upcoming vacation to my family’s summer house in New Hampshire. Long canoe rides, hikes in the mountains, the occasional campfire and a fair amount of time spent lounging in a vintage swimsuit. I’ve basically engineered my weeks off to become a glorified grownup summer camp and no movie brings more nostalgic summer-timey camp goodness to the table than The Parent Trap.
brass compass $15, recycled sunglasses $21, deadstock vintage swimsuit $190, wooden oar $26, american traders wooden canoe $2700+, swiss army knife $10, ll bean mariner purse $77, pendleton glacier national park blanket $160.

The Parent Trap is just adorable on every front, regardless of its superbly improbable plot. Two cute blonds at the same camp who look exactly alike? Guess what? Long lost twinsies who then use their painful cuteness to trick their estranged parents into falling in love again. One is a prep school Boston princess and the other’s a rough and tumble California tomboy. Both are equally out fitted in awesomeness and other than the whole pouring honey on fellow sleeping tent-mates, I’m game just about everything else.
blue metal lantern $26, diamond safety matches $1.25, antique nickel flashlight $14, chloe high waisted shorts $360, vintage suitcase $45, woven leather oxfords $115, outdoor teepee $2200, blue bandana $2, wildflower honey $4.50.

Beth's Patterned and Modern Whimsy Outdoor Picnic Party

from Apartment Therapy Main by Beth Zeigler
062510party-01.jpg
It's no secret, I'm a big 'ole fan of patterns--the more the merrier in my book. And if I had to translate my personal decorating style outdoors, it'd have a touch more whimsy than what I allow indoors.
1. No outdoor picnic party of mine would be found without string lights hanging from above.
2. A southerner at heart, I'd love to sport my monogram with a set of these plates from Neiman Marcus.
3. Great looking flatware is hard to find (and unfortunately, my most-liked is no longer available). But that's not to say a long day of web research can't offer up something similar.
4. I could spend a week at Mr. Boddington's Studio, oohing and ahhing over the amazing designs. My current fave--Dodger!
5. Moss and flower terrariums as the party's centerpiece? (Heck yeah). And when they're done decorating the party, the glass containers can go indoors for a lasting decorating touch.
6. Even though there is great lighting above, a little extra mood lighting never hurt anyone. These beauties are from E.R. Butler & Co available in oxidized bronze, gold or sterling silver plate.
7. Ever since purchasing a tea towel representing my home state, I've always been attracted to these California state glasses.
8. Just because the party is outdoors doesn't mean you have to give up on the cozy factor. Adding patterned seat cushions to the picnic table feels comfy and looks oh-so-fun.
9. A picnic table that looks old school but can keep up with my current friends.

Sarah & Alex's Civil War Era Home House Call

from Apartment Therapy Main by Janel Laban
Name: Sarah & Alex Location: Columbia, Missouri We fell in love with our rental's great architecture features the second we walked in. The house was built during the Civil War Era and still has its original hardwood floors! This is the first time my boyfriend and I have lived together, so we wanted a house we could call home, together. Unlike most men, he too likes interior design, so while we have had our battles (all over art!) we both take great pride in our home.

a oui roundup: my french table

[image above, left to right: saint james striped shirt (because you have to wear something at your french table!), french gougere mix $14 (yum!), fleur de sel dish $11.50, red linen provence tablecloth $64.90+]

i’m sorry, it’s friday and my brain is fried so please forgive the terrible pun in this post’s title. i think the heat is starting to melt my brain and puns seem like a good idea today. to counteract the heat i’ve been watching movies and clips online of amelie, trying to imagine what life would be somewhere beautiful, cool, and with a constant dreamy breeze. so i thought i’d build a tiny roundup of things that would live on my amelie-inspired french table. even if none of these items ever live in my home, i still like to close my eyes and imagine bringing bread to the table in a market bag and then eating brioche off of one of nathalie lete’s painted plates. au revoir!

Toms

from Apartment #412 | Decorating My Small Apartment & Other Stuff

Toms have been on my radar for ever (if you haven't heard of Toms basically, for every pair they sell they give a pair to a child in need. Fantastic idea. So simple but such a big impact. Love it.). They seem to be the perfect comfy casual go to shoe that you can still wear (depending on the style) with a skirt or fun summery dress.

However, I've been having a hard time choosing which style to get. Then at Woofstock I saw a lady in these and I was sold:

I'm not an oxford type of gal and, to me, these have that oxford-ish feel...but I really like them. The leather trim gives them a lil' extra oomph.

I also want this pair (in gold or black...debating) for when I shoot weddings....
