Living In: Beetlejuice

In Beetlejuice, a recently deceased husband and wife test their spooky skills in order to rid their house of its new owners. Hilarity, of course, ensues when they hire bio-exorcist Beetlejuice to aid in the fright show. An adorable Winona Ryder plays Lydia, the misunderstood daughter. Bonus: Lydia Deetz is an epic Halloween costume. All it takes is a big black hat, black dress, black shoes and an old camera. Poof! You’re practically a Halloween legend already!
Beetlejuice is now my ultimate fun Halloween flick. I honestly hadn’t seen it in 15 years and had only a vague recollection of stripes and the Day-O banana boat song. Silly me — I’ve been missing out all this time. This goofy mix of New England farmhouse meets Tim Burton kitschy kook is pitch-perfect for Halloween shenanigans.

The list above suggests on how to reuse your families china and mix with more modern plates, taking bold patterns and using them as chargers or table cloths and collecting salt and pepper shakers. Plus more eco/green ways to reuse and re-purpose to create a fun table setting. Enjoy!

Thank you Richard from Blue Print Brands for the table setting picture above.

Living In: Rear Window

I had a friend in the sixth grade whose father rented Rear Window when we asked him to get a scary movie for our sleepover. Let me tell you, it wasn’t what we had in mind and I think we ditched it half way through to play “light as a feather, stiff as a board.”  Since spooky season is drawing near, I figured it was time to revisit Hitchcock’s 1954 masterpiece and see if I could school the 11-year-old me in the ways of quiet suspense.

Arrange Furniture in a Small Space

Assess your space: Before you convince yourself that there is too little room, or your furniture is too large, visualize your space on paper or in your head. Rooms that have doorways to another space will need to have a clear walkway through your space and through the doorway. Therefore, do not place very large furniture too close or in the middle of traffic pathways. If you have windows, take into consideration tall furniture that can block views out of these windows.
